Tiffany Window & Lantern Preservation
Having completed the majority of exterior building stabilization needs called out in the assessment, the focus has turned to saving the Tiffany windows.
An assessment of the windows from the Serpentino Stained Glass Studio has allowed us to prioritize the most urgent repairs.
1) 2019 The Cornelius and the Angel window was removed for repair and conservation and was reinstalled in 2020. The money for this was raised from foundations and two donors.
2) 2021 We began the process of removing and restoring twenty-two of the 24 clerestory Tiffany windows. The money for this project was raised from foundations, the National Fund for Sacred Places and a capital campaign “Renew the Light” which brought in donations from the congregation our diaspora as well as individual donors from outside of the church, and the broader Boston community.
3) 2023 The church received an anonymous donation for the preservation and restoration of our 1893 Tiffany Lantern. In 2024 a team of amazing artisans came together to plan and execute the work in January 2025. The lantern was cleaned, gilding preserved, glass repaired, electrical wiring replaced, new bulbs and the addition of accent lights to highlight the angels.
4) 2024 the Madonna and Child window was removed for repair and conservation and will be reinstalled in the fall of 2025. The money for this was raised from foundations.
The next 3 windows in line of priority are: MARY OF BETHANY (Devotion), DEBORAH (Courage) and MIRIAM (Joy)
We are actively engaged in fund-raising, and encourage donations of any amount to the Tiffany Windows Fund.
